Where adventure meets community

A hillside house on Main Street, turned into the kind of hostel where strangers become travel friends.

Rock View Hostel Ella started the way most good hostels do — with a house that had a better view than it had any right to, and owners who liked having guests around. Tucked just off Main Street, it's grown into a favourite stop for travellers riding the hill-country train line between Kandy and Ella, drawn in by the terrace as much as the beds.

Mornings here start with communal breakfast on the terrace, flags from every guest's home country strung overhead, and yoga mats rolled out for anyone who wants a stretch before the mountains get busy. Evenings are for group scooter runs, board games in the covered common area, and comparing notes with other travellers — who caught the sunrise at Little Adam's Peak, who's headed to Nine Arches Bridge for the 9:45 train, who found the good roti place down the road.

We keep the front desk staffed around the clock, because trains and treks don't run on a nine-to-five, and we'd rather you spend your time in Ella than waiting on us. Whether you're here for one night or ten, our team treats every guest like they've stayed before.
